Nina Ricci Perfume

Nina Ricci has perhaps become more famous in recent years for her fragrances, but before she began creating perfumes she was a prolific clothes designer. She was born in the late 1800s in Italy and her real name is actually Maria Nielli, but she became affectionately known as Nina as a young girl and this then continued to be used throughout her life.

Like many aspiring designers her interest in the arena began at an extremely young age as she secured an apprenticeship with a local dressmaker at the tender age of thirteen. In the early 1900s the household name as we know it today of Nina Ricci was established as she married another creative named Luigi Ricci and took his surname upon marriage. It was when Nina was just shy of turning fifty that the House of Nina Ricci was formed as a design emporium. Nina’s designs grew in popularity thanks to their unique feminine qualities which became her trademark.

This theme of delicacy and femininity was also to become highly prevalent in her Nina Ricci perfume range. The perfume, L'Air du Temps is one of those long time classic perfumes which was launched in 1948. It is a peach and floral style fragrance which is quite typical of perfumes that were created in the 1940s. Due to the beautiful flacon design created by Lalique, it also became known as ‘the bottle with the doves’. Rather uniquely Lalique made these pretty bottles exclusively for Ricci until the middle of the twentieth century.

Nina Ricci fragrance has a bit of an offbeat top note, but you need the bear with it as it settles on your skin after a few moments as it then shows its true colours and a wonderful proliferation of florals and spiciness comes through. The floral notes contain rose and carnation interlaced with a little peach. The perfume gives off a fantastic rich smell which finishes with a great base note of clove and rosemary.

As the Nina Ricci scent settles further, Nina Ricci L Air Du Temps heightens its warm and powdery nature. The spiciness comes through further with the vetiver and ends on lovely sweet note. The fragrance has a great longevity and there will be little need for reapplication through the day.

Another long time favourite in the Nina Ricci perfume line is the quintessential Nina by Nina Ricci. Nina Ricci fragrance is a classic and is perfect for those looking for a sophisticated and mature scent.
